Jermaine Dupri's Magic City Docuseries Acquired by Starz
Jermaine Dupri's docuseries titled 'Magic City: An American Fantasy' is set to premiere on Starz this summer, focusing on the iconic Atlanta strip club Magic City and its cultural significance in the hip-hop community. The five-part series, directed by Charles Todd and executive produced by Dupri and Drake's DreamCrew Entertainment, will explore themes such as crime, Black entrepreneurship, and the club's influence on music and nightlife. It features interviews with notable figures including 2 Chainz, Nelly, Shaquille O’Neal, and others, while also delving into the life of the club's founder, Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney. Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, described the series as a 'riveting behind-the-curtain look' at a unique aspect of Black culture. The project has been in development since 2023 and promises unprecedented insider access to the club's history and impact. Dupri has expressed the importance of telling Magic City's story, emphasizing its evolution from a local venue to an internationally recognized landmark.
