Two OC Deputies Involved in Separate Shootings

Authorities in Orange County are investigating two separate incidents involving sheriff's deputies. In Lake Forest, a deputy shot and injured Ethan Chase Mull, who allegedly pointed a handgun at deputies during an attempted arrest; a police K-9 also bit a deputy, who was treated and released. In a separate incident in Tustin, an off-duty sheriff's deputy fatally shot Brittany Shaw, his roommate and a county Health Care Agency employee, reportedly after mistaking her for an intruder as she returned from walking her dog. Shaw was pronounced dead at the hospital, and the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave. The Tustin case is being treated as a death investigation, while the District Attorney's Office is handling the Lake Forest case. Both incidents remain under investigation.
