He initially mistook his symptoms for the flu and spent days bedridden before his girlfriend, Alice Yaxley, called for an ambulance when he became delirious. Upon arrival at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, doctors informed him that he was the 'sickest' patient in the ward and that if he had arrived just 24 hours later, it would have been too late. Vanderpump described the experience as terrifying, especially when told of his organ failure, leading him to burst into tears.
