World Food Programme Expands Aid Efforts

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is intensifying its flood response in Bangladesh, providing cash transfers of BDT 6,000 (USD 50) to nearly 47,000 families affected by the August floods, particularly targeting vulnerable women through existing government programs. Meanwhile, in Zimbabwe, the WFP has received a $1 million contribution from South Korea to assist 22,000 people impacted by drought conditions exacerbated by El Niño, as an estimated 5.9 million rural residents face food insecurity. Japan has also stepped up, donating $2 million to help 42,000 drought-affected individuals in Zambia, focusing on essential food supplies and nutrition needs amid widespread agricultural and economic challenges. These international contributions aim to alleviate the immediate hunger crises and support long-term recovery efforts in the affected regions. WFP is ready to expand its assistance in Bangladesh and is coordinating closely with local governments and NGOs in Zambia and Zimbabwe to ensure effective distribution and monitoring of aid. The ongoing humanitarian responses highlight the global commitment to addressing food insecurity brought on by climate-related disasters.
