Worker Dies After Gas Tank Incident Sacramento Costco
A worker employed by Ponder Environmental Services died after being rescued from an underground fuel tank at a Sacramento Costco gas station undergoing remodeling. The incident occurred when the worker entered the empty tank to clean it and passed out, likely due to heavy gasoline vapors or a medical emergency. Firefighters used a tripod and rope system to extract the worker, who was unresponsive and received CPR while being transported to the hospital. Despite rescue efforts, the worker succumbed to their condition at the hospital. The Sacramento Fire Department and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident while monitoring air quality in the area, which poses no public threat. The Costco gas station remains temporarily closed as the investigation continues.
