Detroit Opens $14M Chandler Park Fieldhouse East Side

Detroit has opened the new Chandler Park Fieldhouse, a $14 million, 130,000-square-foot state-of-the-art recreation center on the city's east side, funded by federal American Rescue Plan Act money. This facility is the first full recreation center in District 4 in 19 years, featuring amenities such as a turf sports field, multi-sport courts, a track, multipurpose rooms, fitness areas, lockers, showers, and bathrooms, offering programs for all ages including sports like soccer, football, lacrosse, volleyball, and pickleball. City officials, including Mayor Mike Duggan and City Councilwoman Latisha Johnson, emphasized the fieldhouse's role in revitalizing the community by providing safe, year-round recreational opportunities and promoting wellness for youth, families, and seniors. Residents expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the new center, highlighting its potential to positively impact the community by keeping children engaged and supporting health and fitness, as well as symbolizing Detroit's broader progress and recovery. Programming at the facility is set to begin on September 8, 2025, with activities ranging from youth leagues to wellness classes.
