NYC Museum Launches Interactive Dance Exhibition

The Museum of the City of New York is hosting 'Urban Stomp: Dreams and Defiance on the Dance Floor,' a comprehensive exhibition exploring over 200 years of New York City's social dance history. The exhibit highlights the city's rich and diverse dance culture through artifacts, costumes, instruments, and multimedia displays, featuring styles from ballroom and Lindy Hop to salsa, hip-hop, and vogue. Interactive elements include around 30 video tutorials and an immersive dance floor where visitors can try out various dance styles themselves. Curators emphasize the inclusive spirit of the city and the exhibition, celebrating dance as both personal expression and a reflection of New York's constant creativity and cultural fusion. Special events, such as the Royal Bloom Vogue Ball, encourage community participation and honor iconic dance movements like the Harlem Ballroom scene. The exhibition is open through February 22, 2026.
