IVF Clinic Sued for Embryo Mix-Up

Krystena Murray, a 38-year-old woman from Georgia, is suing Coastal Fertility Specialists after an IVF error led her to give birth to a child that was not genetically hers. Murray, who is white, had selected a sperm donor with similar traits but delivered a Black baby in December 2023, prompting a DNA test that revealed the mix-up. Despite bonding with the child for five months, Murray was forced to relinquish custody to the biological parents after an uncontested legal battle. The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the clinic, claiming the mistake caused her severe emotional and psychological harm. Coastal Fertility Specialists has apologized, calling it an isolated incident and implementing new safeguards to prevent future errors.
