The historic men's basketball rivalry between Maryland and Georgetown will resume in the 2025-26 season with a four-game series, the first in nearly a decade. The teams, separated by just 23 miles, will alternate hosting games, starting with Maryland at the Xfinity Center. The rivalry began in 1935 but was disrupted by disputes between former coaches John Thompson Jr. and Lefty Driesell. Maryland last won against Georgetown 76-75 in 2016. Renewing the rivalry was a priority for Maryland's Kevin Willard and Georgetown's Ed Cooley, who both expressed the importance of the game for local fans. Maryland holds a 38-27 advantage in the all-time series against Georgetown.
