Magnitude 3 Earthquake Strikes Malibu Area

A magnitude 3 earthquake struck north of Malibu on Saturday afternoon, the latest in a series of tremors in the area. The quake, occurring at 2:15 p.m. with an epicenter along Kanan Dume Road, was the sixth of magnitude 3 or higher in the past week and a half, following a notable 4.7 magnitude quake on September 12. Although the shaking was felt across parts of Southern California, no injuries or structural damage were reported. Seismologists, including Lucy Jones and Susan Hough, noted that despite the increased activity, it doesn't necessarily indicate an imminent large earthquake. The recent seismic activity surpasses the average frequency of such events in Southern California over the past 65 years.
