Jewish Voice for Peace Settles PPP Loan Claims
A Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), a nonprofit organization, has agreed to pay $677,634 to settle allegations of fraud related to its application for a second-draw Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan under the CARES Act. The organization received $338,817 but was found to have certified that it was not primarily engaged in political activities, which disqualified it from the loan. An investigation revealed that JVP was actively involved in political advocacy, including campaigns against Israel. By settling, JVP avoids potentially owing three times the loan amount in penalties. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves emphasized the importance of maintaining the integrity of the PPP program, which was designed to assist businesses during the pandemic. JVP maintains that any misstatements in their application were inadvertent.
