Tennessee Pet Zebra Rescued After Eight-Day Helicopter Search

A runaway pet zebra named Ed, who escaped in Christiana, Tennessee, after arriving on May 30, was safely captured after more than a week on the loose. Ed was first spotted running along Interstate 24, causing road closures for safety, before disappearing into a wooded area. A coordinated rescue effort involving the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and a Texas-based aviation crew, Tango 82, located and airlifted Ed by helicopter back to his owner. The zebra became an internet sensation, inspiring numerous social media memes during his escape. No injuries were reported during the rescue, which took place in a pasture near the Buchanan Estates subdivision. Ed's safe return was widely celebrated by local officials and animal lovers alike.
