Star Trek Legacy Sequel Plans Pending Paramount, Skydance Approval
Following the conclusion of Star Trek: Picard, showrunner Terry Matalas developed a potential sequel series titled Star Trek: Legacy, which would continue the adventures of characters like Seven of Nine commanding the USS Enterprise-G. Matalas had written about 30 pages of material for a pilot, including plans for the return of Todd Stashwick's character Liam Shaw as an Emergency Engineering Hologram rather than through Borg nanites, offering a creative way to resurrect the character without typical sci-fi tropes. Despite fan interest and Matalas's enthusiasm, the Legacy series has not moved forward due to Paramount's current stance and changes in ownership, with Matalas now working on Marvel's Vision Quest. In parallel, Michael Sussman revealed ambitions for a Star Trek spinoff called Star Trek: United, focusing on Jonathan Archer's later life as President of the United Federation of Planets, a concept backed by Scott Bakula and described as a political thriller and family drama. Both Legacy and United represent efforts to expand the Star Trek universe beyond existing series, though Legacy remains in limbo while Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy are actively progressing. These developments underscore the franchise's commitment to exploring new narrative directions while honoring established characters and lore.
