Filipino Tourist Killed by Elderly Taxi Driver in HK
On August 5, 2025, a 35-year-old Filipino tourist was killed in Hong Kong after an 80-year-old taxi driver lost control of his vehicle, mounted the pavement, and fatally struck the victim outside the Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West. The victim was transported to Princess Margaret Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The taxi driver, who reported feeling dizzy before the crash, was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and remains in police custody as investigations continue. The Philippine Consulate General is assisting the victim’s family with repatriation arrangements and is coordinating with Hong Kong authorities. The incident has sparked renewed scrutiny over elderly taxi drivers in Hong Kong, with growing calls for stricter health examinations following an uptick in accidents involving drivers aged 70 and above. The case highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and the responsibilities of aging drivers in busy cities.
