Merrillville Man Charged in Hammond Bar Shooting
Caprice Edward Cashaw, 31, from Merrillville, has been charged with multiple felonies, including two counts of murder and three of attempted murder, following a mass shooting at Portside Pub in Hammond, Indiana. The shooting, which occurred early Sunday morning, resulted in the deaths of bartender Paul Olivares, 25, and patron Lorraine Reyna, 59, while injuring three others. The incident, captured on surveillance footage, began as a domestic dispute when Cashaw assaulted his girlfriend outside the bar. When Reyna, Olivares, and two others attempted to intervene, Cashaw opened fire, leading to the fatalities and injuries. Police recovered numerous bullet casings at the scene, and Cashaw is being held without bail. The Hammond Police Department has expressed its commitment to supporting the victims' families and ensuring justice is served.
