Nissan and Honda Plan Joint Holding Company

Nissan and Honda have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore a potential business integration through a joint holding company, with Mitsubishi Motors also considering participation. This partnership aims to enhance competitiveness and accelerate advancements in electrification and vehicle intelligence, addressing industry shifts toward carbon neutrality. The discussions, which stem from previous collaborations on software-defined vehicles, seek to create significant synergies in platform development and manufacturing efficiency. Both companies aim to finalize a definitive agreement by June 2025, with plans for the new entity to be operational by August 2026. If realized, the merger could result in standardized platforms and shared resources, while maintaining distinct brand identities. Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida and Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe have expressed optimism about the potential of this collaboration to reshape the future of mobility.
