Keshav Maharaj made history by becoming the first South African spinner to reach 200 Test wickets, reaching the milestone during the opening Test against Zimbabwe by dismissing Craig Ervine. Maharaj now holds the record for most Test wickets by a South African spinner and is the ninth South African to reach 200 wickets. Standing in as captain for the injured Temba Bavuma, Maharaj led a youthful side featuring several debutants, including 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who scored a century on debut. Corbin Bosch also contributed a century as South Africa posted 418 runs in their first innings, securing a 167-run lead after bowling out Zimbabwe for 251.
