Leicester City Owners Sue Over Fatal Helicopter Crash
The family of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, former owner of Leicester City Football Club, has filed a £2.15 billion lawsuit against Leonardo SpA, the manufacturer of the helicopter that crashed in 2018, resulting in his death and that of four others. The lawsuit, which is the largest fatal accident claim in English history, alleges that a critical design flaw in the helicopter's tail rotor led to the crash. An investigation by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) concluded that a mechanical failure caused the helicopter to spin out of control shortly after takeoff. Vichai's son, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, claims the family trusted Leonardo with the safety of the aircraft and now holds the company responsible for the tragedy. The family seeks compensation for loss of earnings and additional damages, citing the significant financial impact on their business, King Power, which had substantial annual revenue and profits at the time of Vichai's death. The case is being heard in a London court, and Leonardo has not yet responded to the lawsuit.
