Long Beach Coach Arrested on Multiple Sexual Assault Counts, Police Seek Additional Victims
Gabriel Vigil, a 34-year-old substitute teacher and coach at Cabrillo High School in Long Beach, was arrested on multiple felony charges related to the sexual assault of a teenage girl. The investigation began on July 1 after a school staff member reported suspicions that Vigil had sexually assaulted a female student off campus. Vigil faces charges including statutory rape, arranging to meet a minor for lewd purposes, and contacting a minor to commit a felony, with bail set at $100,000. Authorities believe there may be additional victims and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Detective Jared Asato of the Child and Elder Abuse unit is handling the case, and anonymous tips can be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers. Vigil was taken into custody at his home near Pacific Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway and is currently awaiting further court proceedings.
