Yankees' Jazz Chisholm Suspended After Ejection, Social Media Outburst
New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. was ejected during the seventh inning of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays after arguing a called third strike by umpire John Bacon, which he believed was a missed call. Following his ejection, Chisholm displayed further frustration by throwing his helmet toward home plate and posting a profanity-laced complaint about the call on social media, both actions that violate MLB rules. As a result, Major League Baseball issued Chisholm a one-game suspension and a fine, citing his on-field conduct and use of electronic devices to disparage an umpire during the game. Chisholm is appealing the suspension, allowing him to remain eligible to play in subsequent games until the appeal is resolved. Yankees manager Aaron Boone attempted to defuse the situation, but Chisholm’s emotional response continued after leaving the field. While some evidence suggests the disputed pitch was indeed out of the strike zone, league rules clearly prohibit both arguing balls and strikes and using social media to criticize officials during games.
