Two Dead in Roosevelt Plaza Liquor Fire

A fire ripped through Avenue Liquors in the Roosevelt Plaza strip mall in Redwood City early Monday morning at about 5:30 a.m., leaving the building fully engulfed when firefighters arrived. While opening the roof during suppression efforts, crews observed two people inside who showed no signs of life and appeared to have sustained severe burns; investigators later confirmed both were dead. Authorities have not released the victims' identities and say it is unknown why they were in the store or whether they had been living there. The store owner is cooperating and the Redwood City Fire Department, Redwood City Police Department and the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office have launched a joint investigation.
