Camp Cope Release Final Sydney Opera House Live Album

Australian indie-rock band Camp Cope will release a live album, "Live at Sydney Opera House," capturing their final performance from October 2023, scheduled for October 17. The album, available digitally via Bandcamp and as a limited vinyl pressing through Poison City and Run For Cover Records, features songs spanning their three studio albums, a 7" split with Cayetana, and guest appearances including Julia Jacklin. Band members Georgia Maq, Kelly-Dawn Hellmrich, and Sarah 'Thomo' Thompson emphasize the release's significance as a record of their last time together and their commitment to independence, deliberately avoiding major streaming platforms which they criticize for neglecting artists. Hellmrich reflects on the band's journey from being told they were "too much" to selling out the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, while Maq continues to pursue a solo career with a new EP forthcoming. Thompson, who also manages the band and works at Poison City Records, highlights the importance of maintaining an independent ethos in the music industry. Additionally, Hellmrich has secured a book deal with Penguin Random House, blending cultural commentary and interviews with inspirational female and gender-diverse musicians.
