Virginia Tech WR Tucker Holloway Enters Portal

Virginia Tech fired head coach Brent Pry after an 0–3 start and a 16–24 overall record, which triggered a 30-day NCAA transfer-portal window running Sept. 15–Oct. 15. Redshirt junior wide receiver and standout punt returner Tucker Holloway announced he will enter the transfer portal and redshirt the 2025 season to preserve two years of eligibility; he has played in the first four games of 2025 and would not be able to play again this season if he uses the redshirt. Holloway is best known for his special-teams production—he owns a Virginia Tech single-game punt-return record of 188 yards, has 476 career punt-return yards on 36 returns, and earned Third Team All-ACC honors in 2023. Linebacker Michael Short, a junior transfer from North Carolina who has appeared in all four games this year (21 tackles, one sack), also plans to enter the portal and could retain two seasons of eligibility with a redshirt. NCAA rules generally allow players to enter the portal after a coach’s dismissal and preserve eligibility by redshirting in seasons they remain below the four-game threshold.
