North Carolina Courage Trade USWNT Jaedyn Shaw to Gotham FC for Record $1.25 Million
Jaedyn Shaw, a star midfielder for the US Women's National Team, is set to be traded from the North Carolina Courage to NJ/NY Gotham FC for a record $1.25 million in intra-league transfer fees, more than doubling the previous NWSL record. Gotham FC plans to sign Shaw through the 2029 season as they aim to strengthen their squad, currently positioned sixth in the league standings. Shaw, 20, joined the Courage in January after requesting a trade from San Diego Wave FC, where she had notable success including winning the NWSL Shield and Challenge Cup and being named to the NWSL Best XI in 2023. Despite her talent, Shaw struggled to live up to expectations at North Carolina, recording three goals and one assist in 19 appearances before the trade. The transfer fee will be paid in installments entirely in NWSL intra-league transfer funds, highlighting Shaw's high value and the growing financial scale of women's soccer transfers. This move marks a significant moment in the NWSL as Shaw looks to revitalize her career with Gotham FC ahead of the postseason.
