Fayette County Parents Charged After Five Children Found Locked in Deplorable Dungeon Conditions
A Fayette County couple, James Russell Kahl and Carly Kahl, have been charged after Pennsylvania State Police found their five children living in deplorable conditions in Redstone Township. The children, aged 5 to 14, were confined in a bedroom described as a "dungeon," which had boarded-up windows, feces on the walls, fleas, no beds, and limited food and clothing. The bedroom door was locked from the outside with three deadbolt locks and lacked a handle, preventing escape, and was monitored by video cameras hardwired to the father's room. Authorities also recovered a stun gun, a replica pistol, drugs, and drug paraphernalia during a search warrant execution. Charges against the parents include endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and drug-related offenses, with additional allegations that the father instructed the mother to use a taser on one of the children. The children were removed from the home and placed in the care of Child and Youth Services as the investigation continues.
