Severe Winter Storm to Impact Eastern US
A powerful winter storm is set to impact over 60 million people across a 1,500-mile stretch from the Central Plains to the East Coast, bringing heavy snow, ice, and severe cold temperatures through Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued winter storm warnings, predicting blizzard conditions and significant travel disruptions in states from Nebraska to Virginia. Areas could experience their heaviest snowfall in over a decade, particularly in northeastern Kansas and north-central Missouri, where totals might exceed 15 inches. The storm will begin in the Midwest and move eastward, with fierce winds and icy conditions complicating travel, particularly at airports like Kansas City International, which has announced flight closures. Additionally, meteorologists warn that this storm could mark the beginning of a series of Arctic air blasts affecting over 250 million people across the U.S. in January, leading to potentially the coldest month since 2011.
