Toyota Plans New 3M Vehicle Plant Japan Early 2030s

Toyota Motor Corporation announced plans to build a new vehicle manufacturing plant in the Teihoucho area of Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, with operations expected to begin in the early 2030s. This will be Toyota's first new domestic assembly plant since 2012, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining a production capacity of three million vehicles annually in Japan, half of which are exported globally. The company is focusing on developing a 'plant of the future' utilizing advanced technologies and fostering a diverse workforce. This investment comes despite challenges such as Japan's declining population and reduced car ownership, and amid criticism from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Japanese vehicle exports to the American market. Toyota reported a 7.3% increase in vehicle deliveries in the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 compared to the previous year, though it forecasts stable total sales for the full fiscal year.
