Darius Miles Denied Bond in Murder Case

Former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles was denied bond for the third time on Wednesday in connection with the January 2023 fatal shooting of Jamea Harris. Although Michael Davis, a friend of Miles, is identified as the shooter, Miles is accused of providing the gun used in the incident. The bond hearing occurred after Alabama removed the death penalty from consideration for Miles. Miles' defense raised issues regarding the late issuance of Miranda Rights and argued self-defense, claiming the incident was initiated by Harris' boyfriend, Cedric Johnson. Despite the defense's arguments and proposals for strict bond conditions, Judge Daniel Pruet denied the motion, citing the likelihood of conviction. Future hearings will address motions to suppress Miles' statements made to law enforcement on the night of the shooting.
