GE HealthCare invests €132 million to expand Cork facility

GE HealthCare has announced a €132 million investment to expand its manufacturing site in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork, with plans for a new facility that will increase annual production capacity by 25 million patient doses of contrast media by the end of 2027. This expansion is a response to the anticipated doubling of global demand for iodine-based contrast media, which are crucial for medical imaging procedures. Taoiseach Micheál Martin will initiate construction, highlighting GE HealthCare's long-standing commitment to Ireland and its skilled workforce. The new 3,000m2 facility will include advanced automation systems and support both current and future products. GE HealthCare executives have emphasized their responsibility to meet rising demand and ensure supply chain resiliency. The expanded facility is expected to play a significant role in addressing global healthcare needs.
