Naresh Bhatt, 37, is seeking to be released on bond while awaiting trial for concealing the body of his missing wife, Mamta Kafle Bhatt, 28, who was last seen in late July. His defense claims that the Manassas Park police mishandled the investigation and made false statements to obtain the arrest warrant, alleging that Bhatt did not refuse to report his wife missing as police suggested. Despite evidence of blood found in their home and purchases of cleaning supplies, Mamta's body has not yet been located. Bhatt has been in custody since Aug. 22, and a judge previously deemed him a flight risk. His trial is set for December, with a bond hearing scheduled for Friday. The defense argues that the prosecution lacks probable cause, as the evidence against Bhatt is based on unverified claims.
