Two Venezuelan Immigrants Arrested Over Texas Jet Ski Fatality

Two Venezuelan nationals without permanent legal status, Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez and Maikel Coello Perozo, were arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run death of 18-year-old Ava Moore at Grapevine Lake near Dallas-Fort Worth. Moore, an incoming U.S. Air Force Academy cadet, was struck by a jet ski driven by Gonzalez while kayaking, and Gonzalez then fled the scene with Perozo, hitting another vehicle in the process. Multiple agencies including Texas Game Wardens, Grapevine Police, and Homeland Security collaborated in tracking down and arresting the suspects, with Gonzalez facing manslaughter and reckless operation charges, and Perozo charged with fleeing a vehicle accident and hindering apprehension. Moore had recently graduated from the Air Force Academy Preparatory School and was set to begin basic training, with officials and her community mourning her loss and emphasizing safety on the lake. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton condemned the incident, highlighting the suspects' immigration status and pledging to secure justice. The tragedy has prompted calls for vigilance and enforcement of watercraft safety regulations to prevent similar accidents.
