The NCAA Division I Council has voted to shorten transfer portal windows for football and basketball from 45 to 30 days, despite considering the elimination of the spring window. For football, the winter window will be 20 days (Dec. 9-28), and the spring window will be 10 days (April 16-25). Basketball's transfer window will open the day after the second round of the NCAA Tournaments. The Council's decision comes amid ongoing discussions about roster stability and player mobility, especially with the upcoming changes from the House v. NCAA settlement which will alter football roster sizes and scholarship limits. Despite the reduction, players will still get an additional 30-day window if a head coaching change occurs. The changes aim to streamline the transfer process while accommodating the evolving landscape of college sports.
