Iva Jovic Becomes Youngest U.S. Open Winner

Sixteen-year-old Californian Iva Jovic achieved a remarkable victory in her Grand Slam debut by defeating 2023 Australian Open semifinalist Magda Linette in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, during the U.S. Open. This win makes Jovic the youngest American to win a women's main-draw match at the U.S. Open since 2000. Jovic, ranked 389th in the world, entered the tournament with a wildcard after winning the USTA Billie Jean King Girls' National Championship. Despite her youth, Jovic displayed strategic poise, winning 69% of her first serve points and converting 50% of her break point opportunities. She will face World No. 31 Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round and plans to compete in the junior event as well.
