Homa Treated for Ankle Bone Spur, Sits 6-Under
Max Homa carded a bogey-free 5-under 66 on Friday at the Bank of Utah Championship to sit 6-under for the tournament while battling a “pretty good-sized” bone spur on the top of his right ankle that swelled during the round. He received in-round medical treatment (KT tape and anti-inflammatories) and said the pain made walking and uphill shots difficult but paradoxically kept him from overthinking his swing. The six-time PGA Tour winner is seeking his first victory since the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open and is roughly No. 100 in FedExCup points after recent results that include several top-20s and a T5 at the John Deere Classic. This will be his final fall start, and he plans to have the bone spur removed when he has time off. Off the course, Homa recently split with instructor John Scott Rattan after the Baycurrent Classic, has been seen consulting former coach Mark Blackburn amid other changes to his caddie and clubs, and credited his wife’s difficult childbirth and surgery as motivation to push through the pain.
