Wayne Rooney Declines Macclesfield Manager Offer

Wayne Rooney has declined an offer to become manager of non-league Macclesfield, following the club's approach after Robbie Savage's expected move to Forest Green Rovers. Macclesfield, promoted to the National League North under Savage's leadership, contacted Rooney's agent, but the 39-year-old former England star decided against taking the job at this time. Rooney is currently focused on his media and punditry work and, according to both him and his wife, is not seeking an immediate return to football management. Despite his recent struggles as a manager at Plymouth Argyle, Birmingham City, Derby County, and DC United, Rooney remains passionate about football and may revisit management in the future. Macclesfield, reformed after the liquidation of its predecessor in 2020, continues to look for a new manager. Savage is expected to take over at Forest Green following his successful tenure at Macclesfield.
