Communities Celebrate Wassailing across England

Wassailing, an ancient tradition aimed at blessing apple orchards and warding off evil spirits, was celebrated across various community events recently. Rich's Cider Farm hosted its annual wassailing evening, drawing over 350 attendees who participated in rituals such as placing cider-soaked toast on trees and firing shotguns to scare away bad spirits, while raising money for charity. Meanwhile, a community orchard in Hornsea held its inaugural event, where participants dressed in bright colors and made noise to awaken the land and ensure a good apple crop. The Petersfield Community Garden also marked its 11th wassailing ceremony with performances from local choirs and Morris dancers, celebrating community and tradition.
