Former NBA Star Gilbert Arenas Arrested California Illegal Poker Operation

Former NBA star Gilbert Arenas was arrested and charged with conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, operating the illegal business, and making false statements to federal investigators after hosting high-stakes poker games at his Encino mansion from September 2021 to July 2022. Alongside Arenas, five other men, including Yevgeni Gershman—allegedly linked to an Israeli organized crime group—were also arrested. The operation involved collecting a 'rake' from poker pots and hiring staff such as young women to serve drinks and provide companionship, as well as chefs, valets, and armed security. Gershman faces additional charges related to a marriage fraud scheme involving a sham union to secure U.S. residency.
