Police Find Former Mastodon Guitarist Brent Hinds At Fault In Fatal Atlanta Motorcycle Crash

A newly released police crash report has determined that Brent Hinds, co-founder and former guitarist of the heavy metal band Mastodon, was at fault for the motorcycle accident that claimed his life on August 20, 2025. Investigators concluded that Hinds was traveling between 63 and 68 mph—nearly twice the posted speed limit—when his Harley Davidson collided with a BMW SUV at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Boulevard in Atlanta. This finding was supported by traffic camera footage and witness statements describing Hinds as driving fast. Although early reports suggested the SUV driver failed to yield while making a left turn, the final report placed responsibility on Hinds due to his excessive speed, despite some conflicting statements about the traffic light's status during the crash.
