Christine Bumstead Joins Florida Panthers' Coaching Staff

Christine Bumstead made headlines by serving as an assistant coach for the Florida Panthers during a preseason game, a remarkable achievement stemming from her unexpected introduction to coaching during a hunting trip with Paul Maurice in 2020. During their 25-minute drive, Maurice recognized Bumstead's potential, stating, 'Oh, that’s a coach.' This summer, she participated in the Panthers' development camp, leading to her recent role on the bench. Bumstead is part of the NHL Coaches Association Female Coaches Program, aimed at supporting women in coaching, alongside around 100 other women, including Melissa Samoskevich. Returning to her primary roles as an assistant coach for the University of Saskatchewan women's team and a performance coach for the Saskatoon Blades, Bumstead reflects on her coaching journey, emphasizing her newfound drive and passion. Maurice believes that the inclusion of women like Bumstead in coaching roles is a vital step toward a more inclusive future in the NHL.
