Caltrans has scheduled a major closure of eastbound Interstate 8 through La Mesa and El Cajon this weekend, from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, to complete bridge repairs as part of a $27.7 million project. Traffic will be detoured via State Routes 125, 52, and 67. The project, funded by federal and state sources, aims to extend the lifespan of several 60-year-old bridges and is expected to conclude soon, with minor overnight closures planned in early October to finalize lane striping. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time to avoid delays. The California Highway Patrol will monitor the area to ensure safety during the closure.
