Las Vegas Solar Streetlights Pilot to Combat Theft

Clark County has launched a pilot program to install solar-powered streetlights in the Las Vegas Valley to combat rampant copper wire theft. The initiative began with the installation of 12 solar streetlights on East St. Louis Avenue, an area severely affected by these thefts. These new streetlights, which include solar panels and batteries, are designed to be cost-effective and out of reach for thieves. Commissioner Michael Naft emphasized the county's commitment to addressing this issue through innovative solutions and stricter laws. The success of this pilot program could lead to broader implementation across the valley, where 65,000 street lamps could eventually be converted to solar power.
