Malaysia reported its first mpox case of 2024, involving a local man with no recent travel history, indicating local transmission. The case, identified as the less severe clade II variant, follows a total of 10 confirmed cases since July 2023. The patient exhibited symptoms such as fever and sore throat beginning on September 11, with isolation and monitoring of his contacts underway. Meanwhile, Singapore is implementing new measures against the more dangerous clade 1 strain of mpox, including the provision of the JYNNEOS vaccine to high-risk healthcare workers and close contacts of confirmed cases. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently declared mpox a global public health emergency again, largely due to rising clade 1 cases in Africa. Both nations are enhancing surveillance and health protocols to curb the spread of the virus.
