Patagonia Lays Off 41 Employees in Restructuring

Patagonia has announced the layoff of 41 employees, marking its second round of job cuts in 2024, as part of a significant restructuring aimed at aligning with the company's long-term goals. CEO Ryan Gellert emphasized that these changes, which impact about 1% of the workforce, are essential for both immediate success and the company's future. The layoffs will affect various teams at the Ventura headquarters, although roles in customer service, retail, and warehouse departments remain untouched. Gellert reassured employees that the layoffs were not a reflection of their performance, and new positions created through the restructuring will primarily be filled internally. This move comes as Patagonia faces economic challenges, despite remaining profitable, and aligns with its mission to focus on product, storytelling, and impact. Earlier this year, the company also laid off 90 remote customer service staff, contributing to an overall reduction of approximately 3% of its global workforce.
