University of Georgia Provost Named UC Riverside Chancellor

Dr. S. Jack Hu has been appointed as the new chancellor of UC Riverside, effective July 15, succeeding Chancellor Kim A. Wilcox who is retiring. Hu brings nearly 40 years of experience in higher education, currently serving as senior vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Georgia, where he has overseen substantial growth in research funding and academic programs. Previously, Hu spent over three decades at the University of Michigan, rising to vice president for research. UC President Michael V. Drake praised Hu's track record of championing innovation and increasing opportunities for students and faculty, highlighting his potential to advance UC Riverside's global leadership in scholarship and community impact. Hu's appointment comes at a pivotal time for the UC system amidst challenges in higher education, and he is recognized for his collaborative mindset and commitment to academic excellence. He will be the first Asian American chancellor of UC Riverside, bringing a strong background in research, academic leadership, and community engagement.
