Global Observatory Launched to Assess AI Environmental Impact

In response to the growing environmental concerns surrounding artificial intelligence (AI), a new global Observatory has been launched by the Ecole normale supérieure, the AI & Society Institute, and Capgemini. This initiative aims to analyze and mitigate AI's environmental impact throughout its lifecycle, addressing issues such as energy consumption and carbon emissions from data centers. The Observatory will establish a methodology for measuring AI's environmental footprint and create an open-access database for transparency among developers and researchers.
