Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has won a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Memphis restaurant The Wing Guru, with a Shelby County Chancery Court ordering the business to pay him over $300,000 in damages and interest. Morant had signed a promotional contract with the restaurant in January 2022, but the restaurant allegedly stopped paying him within months while continuing to use his name, image, and likeness to promote their wings. Despite public promises by The Wing Guru on Instagram to pay the owed $75,000, Morant never received the funds. An arbitrator ruled in Morant's favor, directing the restaurant to cease using his likeness and awarding about $65,000 additionally in interest and legal costs, with the court enforcing the payment after the restaurant failed to respond or challenge the ruling. Attempts by Morant's legal team and authorities to serve the restaurant summons were unsuccessful, further complicating the case. This legal victory comes amid Morant’s recent off-court controversies but allows him to focus on his NBA career.
