Threads launches media tab, photo tagging features

Meta's Threads app is introducing several new features aimed at enhancing user engagement and competing with rival platforms like X and Bluesky. A dedicated 'Media' tab will now allow users to easily access all their shared photos and videos, a highly requested feature according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri. Additionally, users will be able to tag individuals in shared images, further aligning Threads with familiar functionalities found on Instagram. The app has also rolled out a 'markup' tool enabling users to annotate or highlight content from others’ posts. These updates come as Threads reports a significant increase in active users, reaching 320 million, reflecting its growing momentum in the social media landscape. Meta's strategic updates appear to be effective in attracting users, particularly those migrating from other platforms.
