Parents Arrested for Assaulting School Deputy

A couple, Jorge Rivera and Dagmarie Aponte Iturrino, were arrested after attacking a school resource deputy at Deltona Middle School in Volusia County, Florida. The incident occurred during a meeting about their son's battery charge for shoving a girl, which led Rivera to become irate when the outcome was not in their favor. Iturrino pushed the deputy against a wall while Rivera punched her, took her Taser, and was subdued only after the deputy drew her firearm. Both parents face multiple charges, including battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence, while Rivera also faces armed robbery and grand theft charges. A hate crime enhancement was applied due to a slur Rivera used against the deputy. The deputy, praised for her calm response, was treated for concussion symptoms at a hospital.
