Türkiye Signs Major LNG Deals Boosting Energy Security

Türkiye has signed multiple significant LNG supply agreements with global energy companies including BP, Shell, ENI, Cheniere Energy, Hartree, PetroChina, and Oman LNG, securing around 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas over the next three years to enhance energy security and diversify supply sources. State-owned BOTAŞ will receive substantial LNG volumes annually: 1.6 bcm from BP, 2.4 bcm from Shell, 500 mcm from ENI, 1.2 bcm from Cheniere, and additional volumes from Hartree, SEFE, Equinor, and JERA. These deals were finalized during the Gastech 2025 Forum in Milan, where Türkiye emphasized a balanced energy strategy incorporating renewables, natural gas, nuclear, and coal. Cooperation agreements with PetroChina and Oman LNG also aim to expand production capacity, optimize LNG transport, and explore new markets. The agreements are part of Türkiye's broader effort to meet a projected tripling of energy demand over the next 30 years, while strengthening commercial flexibility and ensuring winter supply security. Minister Alparslan Bayraktar highlighted ongoing discussions with Shell and ENI about potential collaboration on exploration and production, especially in the Black Sea region.
