CAR-T Therapy Advances in Brain, Blood, and Kidney Cancer
Recent advancements in cancer treatment include a Gilead Sciences-backed CAR-T cell therapy that shrank tumors in 62% of patients with recurrent glioblastoma, a highly fatal brain cancer, as reported at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting. MGM Medical College in India successfully treated a blood cancer patient with CAR-T cell therapy, becoming the first government medical institution in the state to achieve this milestone and underscoring the therapy’s transformative and cost-saving potential. In renal cell carcinoma (RCC), research now supports nephron-sparing and minimally invasive surgeries, especially for kidney transplant recipients and the elderly, to better preserve kidney function and enhance recovery. Studies highlight that sarcomatoid status, race, and lifelong body mass index can affect RCC treatment outcomes, emphasizing the need for more personalized care. Despite these promising developments, further research is required to refine protocols for both solid and blood cancers, particularly in complex patient populations.
